region, where they will apply design methods to come up with ideas for
solutions for a number of important problems of society and inspire new
initiatives. The summit will take off on September 25th at Malmo Town hall.
Here creative leaders will discuss problems with key people from the Oresund
region. The following days from September 26th – 28th at the Danish Design
Centre they will be working intensively trying to come up with solutions.

INDEX: Views Summit will end with a presentation of the results. This will
take place from 3 - 5 p.m. on September 28th at Danish Design Centre,
followed by a ‘round table’ discussion on the experiences from the summit
and a wrap up party at 6 p.m. Following this event there will be an INDEX:
charter published in November with the results and perspectives from the
meeting.

debate on key issues related to new design and innovation.

For further information, please see www.index2005.dk from September 7th.

present the creative leaders for the Views Summit on the site – the
international creative thinkers, innovators and leaders who will work on
five challenges to human life around the world during the Summit. Also, the
overall challenges that the Views Summit is expected to focus on will be
made public.

For further information, please see www.index2005.dk from September 7th.

Grandmothers to present the face of INDEX: exhibitions – Volunteers still
needed!

Innovative and future oriented design is not just for the young and trendy.
One of the most important goals for INDEX: is to present future design to a
broader range of people. That is why INDEX: is busy recruiting grandmothers
(and –fathers) to guard the INDEX: Award and Future Scenarios Exhibitions
in Copenhagen. 45 grandmothers have already signed up as volunteers during
the seven weeks the exhibition will be displayed from September 23rd –
November 13th. The grandmothers will be divided into pairs, who will spend
four hours a week welcoming people to the exhibitions that will be displayed
on Kongens Nytorv, the metro square at kgs. Nytorv, H?jbro Square,
Nytorv and the Town Hall Square in Copenhagen. If you would like to be a
part of the grandmothers’ team, and you have the possibility of spending
four (or more) hours a week in one of the abovementioned squares, you can
still sign up for the project.

Exhibition Pavilions under construction

Right now everyone is working their hardest to finish the constructions for
the INDEX: Award and Future Scenarios Exhibition. 16.614 Montana grids,
10.800 40x40 cm acrylic plates and 118.000 steel-free screws are what it
takes to get the nine pavilions ready for the opening. When the pavilions
have been assembled the constructions will weigh about 12 ton each. The
constructions will begin at Kgs. Nytorv in Copenhagen September 12th. In the
following days it will continue on H?jbro Square, Nytorv and the Town
Hall Square. People will be working intensively getting the pavilions ready
for the exhibitions September 23rd and 24th.

Five American design students continue their work in Copenhagen

Most of the American students and two teachers from the Art Center College
of Design, California have returned to the United States. They arrived in
Copenhagen in May to spend a semester working for INDEX: as part of their
education.

Now there are only five students left, who will stay in Copenhagen until the
end of September. Their job is to complete the work they have started.
Furthermore, they will participate as Rapid Visualizers during the Views
Summit. It has been a great pleasure to have the Americans stay in
Copenhagen. Their work has a large influence on the visual communication of
INDEX: Award and Future Scenarios exhibitions.

It is also these five students, who will be in charge of the organization of
rooms at Danish Design Centre during the Views Summit. INDEX: is grateful
for the hard work these students have put in to INDEX: 2005!

Copenhagen Airport exhibits future visions

Throughout September Copenhagen Airport focuses on ‘Design 4 Life’ by
offering exhibitions, inspiration and shopping sales. In the light of this
the engineering corporation Arup, London, Copenhagen Airport and INDEX:
have developed visions for the future in Copenhagen Airport.

The visions will among other things show new trendy trolleys, loyalty cards
with endless possibilities, new sales modules and floating Pods that satisfy
the different needs of the different passengers in the airport. They can be
seen at the large square in front of the Tax-Free shop. Don’t forget to get
a copy of the Passport to the Future that will give you all the information
you need about the event.

Verner Panton dish for INDEX: Award winners

Georg Jensen is delighted to offer three of the principle INDEX: Awards –
spectacular trays handcrafted in sterling silver and designed by Verner
Panton.

As though it had been in a collision, Verner Panton’s silver dish has been
pushed together to form hard edges and sharp angles. Light is reflected in
contracting fields from various surfaces to create a chaotic and disjointed
result. Here tradition and restrained explorations have been set aside in
favour of forceful and expressive experimentation. What interested Verner
Panton was the fantastic and the exciting, and he represents a move from
coherent and clear shapes to more complicated forms. Each tray has the
signature stamp from Georg Jensen indicating it has been handcrafted by
Georg Jensen silversmiths in the heart of Copenhagen. The trays also contain
a special inscription signifying it has been specially commissioned for the
INDEX: 2005 Awards.

Royal Copenhagen offers the last two prizes.

health of the city and the people living in it. This takes place from

Ordrupgaard expands
Ordrupgaard is open to the public again after having extended the museum.
The extension has been created by the world famous architect Zaha Hadid, who
received the desired Pritzker Award last year. The new extension that takes
up 1150 square meters doubles the space at the museum and provides a large
exhibition hall as well as six smaller exhibition rooms. The hall will
mainly be used for special exhibitions.
